Forged Question

So we figure the rods would be ok, and the head gasket is definitely a weak point, so the new question is, where can you acquire a decent head gasket for this motor, and does anyone carry a line of forge pistons for this motor? Really a small investment if its going to bullet proof this block for boost.

On all the Ch*vy Comp Eliminator 292's inlines i've done, they also have a head gasket as the weak link. With only 4 bolts per cylinder, and a 7/16" head bolt, once compression starts to rise above 13 or 14:1, even O-ringing the block alone doesn't cure it. One thing we found that did virtually eliminate it all together was drilling and tapping the head bolts in the block to 1/2". This will allow you to apply a greater torque to the head(95-100ft.lbs. vs. 70-75)Im sure if you are going to be running boosted, you will find it to be a necessity for you also to do this. This will be a relatively easy fix to do, but is well worth it....I would still o-ring the block also.

You can use 352 pistons but you need to mill the tops of the pistons so they are the correct height.

You can use 351W pistons but it requires bushing the small end of the rods. The 351W has a .912" diameter piston pin. The late 300 rods( 68-96 ) have a .975" diameter piston pin.
