How do!

Post #1 by [T00lbag] » Thu Mar 14, 2019 9:57 am

New to the forum here. Bringing along my old school ride as described below.

1964 Mercury Comet
200 cu. in. straight six
2 speed Merc-O-Matic auto tranny
3.20 gears
all new suspension
mostly new steering (may have to look for a steering box as I've got A LOT of play)
new front brakes (just haven't gotten to the rear ones yet)
freshly reupholstered seats (trust me...way comfier on the back side)

Also considering bringing home a 1963 Mercury Monterey. Don't know a lot about it right now but I'm guessing it has a 390 V8 with an automatic. Haven't looked it over good yet but it's WAY COOL with the Breezeway window so I think it might be worth saving.

Welcome aboard. Always glad to get new members.
Have you adjusted the worm & sector on the steering box to eliminate the play? Also lube the steering box with grease.

Welcome to the Ford Six forums Toolbag, those 64 Merc's are great looking cars and now days you don't see them very often. Good luck
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

I haven't touched the box at all but there is a reason for this. Everyone that I have talked to at car shows, or anywhere for that matter, say the same thing...Once you adjust the box to eliminate the play, you might as well start looking for another box because you will forever be adjusting it. Repacking it with grease might be an option though. I'll have to look into that.
