Dust getting into the truck bed even with a tonneau

Post #1 by tom954x4 » Sun Sep 11, 2016 10:28 pm

My '12 F-250 has a hard tonneau cover but even with that I get a lot of dust into the bed when I drive on dirt or gravel roads. I really want to keep things clean and dust free back there. I think the dust is entering around the tailgate at the corners. I suppose I could rig up some sort of system to plug the gap areas but maybe there is a better way. The tonneau seal around the top edge of the bed seems to be good. Has anyone faced this an come up with a good solution?

The dust is entering around the tail gate. If the bed pockets aren't sealed by the cover and they are under the cover, dust will get in there too. There is a tail gate seal that will seal all around it to help keep the dust and moisture out. I've never used one but have seen them.

Thanks vssman. I had not heard of this product before. I have searched and found a number of weather stripping type seals and will give that a go and let the Board know how it works out.

I bought the MaxSeal tailgate sealer kit and it went on in 5 minutes, easy install. Fortunately there was enough of the material to add an extra strip on both sides of the tailgate towards the lower end of it, to help seal the big gap between the bottom of the tailgate and the bed in the corners. It looks like its all sealed up good. Now for a test this weekend.
