Stock 3 speed manual questions

Post #1 by Blairsville Ed » Tue Mar 12, 2019 4:37 pm

I interested in the Bronco 3 speed manual trans.
I have a 1968 F100, 240, 2wd, Ford 3.03 trans.
The Bronco 6 cylinder trans has a lower 1st gear and the transfer case is a bolt on unit.
I need the low first gear for pulling my pontoon out of the launch and I want to keep the column shift.
Will the Broncos transfer case bolt up to my 3.03 with the short adapter? Or should I look for a trans with the transfer case attached?
And, will the Bronco transfer case bolt-up to a T170 rug side shift overdrive trans?

The 3.03 trans you have should have either a "RAT" or "RAN" cast into the housing. The small 6 has "HEF" as it's designation - IIRC, the 3.03 has an SBF bolt pattern, but you'll need to use the 6 intermediate housing to maintain the same length.... bmbm40 will correct me if I'm wrong, it's been awhile since I had my '66.

The trans tag is stamped RAN G-1
Does the adapter housing have the crossmember mounting holes ?

Yes - the 6 intermediate housing has 2 ears with mounting holes, just like yours does.

Is it normal that the junkyards sell the transfer cases without the adapter housing?

Is there a difference in the adapter housing mounting.
Will an automatic transmission adapter bolt up to a manual transmission?

Not sure if you found your parts. I have a full trans, adapter and transfer case set up. PM me if you have interest.
