Tremic T170 = F150 4WD -
Sounds like another option but what is it like?
4 speeds?
heavy duty
or mall crawl (since it's '80s probably not, I don't think the status of 4wd had hit yet?).
Needs an adapter (so $400? leaves me out.). Which is a Q I have for every 1 -
Anyone know where on-line to find 'templates' , 'schematics' for adapters?
(bell to transm, transmis to transfer, spud shafts, etc)
Still like this ol C4 due to the claims of "least parasitic of the auto.s".
Thanks for the tip - off to googel it now.

Re: trans and adapter
not an auto -
must be the nxt gen 'toploader'.
C below from Hemmings:
These 4-speeds were used in 1964--'73 Ford cars, and were also found in Ford pickups up until 1987 and Jeeps to 1984.
The forward transmission gears are fully synchronized in this unit. Input shafts were 10-spline, with two possible shaft diameters, 1-1/16-inch or 1-3/8-inch, depending on the engine size of the unit in which it was originally installed. The smaller 1-1/16-inch input shafts were used in 6-cylinders, small-block V-8s and the 390-cu.in. big-block V-8s; the larger spline shaft was used in engines bigger than 390. All Toploaders produced after 1965 used an 8-bolt mounting pattern, although some early '64 transmissions did have a 4-bolt mounting. The 8-bolt mount was developed for replacing both the early and late bolt patterns.
The transmission cases were available in three different lengths: The Mustangs, Falcons, Comets, 1966-and-up Fairlanes and the AC Cobra used a 24-inch case. The earlier 1964--'65 Fair-lanes used a 25-1/2-inch case, and it was also used in some sports cars such as TVR and the Sunbeam Tiger. Full-size Fords and Mercurys, Torinos, Mercury Cyclones and Galaxie models used a 27-inch case.
Look for the following donor cars to locate one of these units:
1964--'73 Mustangs
1964--'70 Comet, Falcon and Fairlane
1971--'73 Torino and Montego
1964--'67 Full-size Mercury
1964--'69 Full-size Ford and Galaxie
1970--'75 Maverick and Comet
1978--'87 Ford pickups with an RUG identification code (however, the complete 5-digit code should be checked to be sure).
1980--'84 Jeep w/T-i 70 transmission Earlier 1964 to 1967 units were designated by an HEH transmission code; 1968 and later units were coded RUG, but check the RUG coded transmissions carefully; there are some impostors using this transmission code designation.
