I think it was 5/8" for the 200/289, 3/4" for the 390, and 13/16" for the "heavy duty" suspension option.

Thanks, i have a 7/8" front bar installed & i am getting a little oversteer. I am trying to find my original sway bar & give it a try.
I could probably fix it with a rear sway bar, but i don't feel like that unless thats my only option. Bill

Many base model six's didn't have a sway bar, when they did X2 stock they were a 5/8 inch one. A 3/4 inch front and a 1/2 to 5/8 inch rear would probally also work very well togeather. Good luck

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

If I'm reading the post correctly, the 7/8 " sway bar is to be replaced with a smaller diameter 5/8". The reduction of the size of the front sway bar will INCREASE the cars' oversteer. Moving to larger sway bars should INCREASE understeer .

Front:
(1) Stiffer: Will increase overall car stability (reduces roll) and shift the car’s balance toward UNDERsteer (push), thus allowing the driver to be more aggressive with the steering. The compromise can be on bumps and/or braking. A stiffer front bar will reduce compliance, so when one tire hits a bump the entire front axle will be affected through a loss of overall grip.
(2) Softer: Allows more roll and will shift the cars balance toward OVERsteer (or less UNDERsteer.) And the front will improve in compliance, which improves performance in brake zones and over bumps.

I added a 5/8 " rear sway bar to my '63 Wagon that has a 3/4" front which reduced understeer significantly. The added rear bar does seem to increase steering input reaction related to higher speeds..

Thanks, great link. I may try a 3/4" front bar cause i have new stiffer springs in front & 5 leaf in the rear. I also installed a set of Koni adjustable shocks. I will have to try different adjustments till i get it right.
I may up ending putting back the 7/8" front bar.

Installed the 3/4" front sway bar. Very satisfied with the Koni shocks & the previous heavier front springs it handles very close to neutral.
I replaced all the junk Energy Suspension bushings with quality Moog parts.
The energy suspension bushings were showings cracks & degeneration after being in there for 5 years.
