my build

Post #1 by 69rustang » Fri Apr 05, 2019 12:46 pm

my 50 F-1 is definitely going topless with a 6 pt rollbar….this homebuilt rat rod frame was originally a copy chassis for one of my vintage racers from a few years ago......then decided to go old school street......bobbed the rear and went with Gremlin springs to allow bobber bed...then converted the front end back to 4" drop I-beam/radius rod axle disk brakes/vega cross steer.....8.8 explorer 3.55s and disk brakes....doing lower body and floor pans now so sending these picks of chassis before I cover it up....if there are any questions about why I did it that way...one of three answers will do (1) that's what I had laying around or (2) got it cheap on crack's list or fleabay or (3) dunno or cant remember...…..300 six and manual trans going in soon plan to run stock so I can enjoy it while I build or save up to buy the "real" motor

 your chassis looks great did you build it from plans or design it as you went?
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

I have built stock car and street rods chassis for 30 years.....now I learn to use cheap off the shelf rails and crossmembers so that everything is "semi-homemade" steel is steel....my basic chassis can go 98-116" 24 to 32 wide ifs or solid axle this one uses ART (clearwater FL where I lived for 20+ years) preformed rails and trans crossmember....competition eng camaro rear rails and "welders series" front crossmember...front axle was ebay steal....overstock same with vega steering.....this chassis had camaro rear leafs on jack bolts and a fox body mustang crossmember, r+p and spindles/brakes with my own upper contro larms using cobra kit car ball joint adapters then I decided against the dirt sportsman deal and went old school rat with it..steel is steel ya make it what you want
