68 Fairlane suspension upgrade

Post #1 by Randle2I » Sun Sep 18, 2011 11:14 am

The front end on my 68 Fairlane is squeaking something fierce. I'm thinking it's just the shocks but the whole thing probably needs to be redone as I'm pretty sure it's all original. I'm wondering what are my options to tighten up/upgrade the suspension while lowing it an inch or two at the same? I'm not looking to spend a year's salary to do it but I would like for it to be done right at the same time. It's a 200CI straight six.

Thanks in advance for any help

Welcome to the world of the squeaky Ford front suspension. More than likely it is the upper A-arms. You may be able to install grease fittings in them, but it is tight and takes a special set of 90-degree fittings. Or you can cut holes in the shock towers to install straight grease fitting. Ugly looking.

If you are going to upgrade your suspension, then make sure your new A-arms have grease fittings installed.

8) two things cause squeaking in the ford front suspension of those years, the upper control arm bushings, and the coil spring perch. the upper arm bushings can have lube zerks installed, and you can replace the coil spring perch with a roller bearing one.

I hate to ask but I haven't been having the best of luck finding online retailers for upgraded components on this car. Where can I buy these parts?

*edit* found some nice spring perches from Open Track Racing
