Cougar suspension in a 62 falcon?

Post #1 by cobraguy » Fri Jan 22, 2016 10:28 am

I have line on a front end out of a 67 Cougar 5 lug disc. Can I make it work in a 62 Falcon or are there major differences. I'm thinking it won't from the searches I've run. I think the UCA shaft is longer and won't fit in the tower. I'm not afraid of doing some work to fit it, just don't want to end up doing the work and have it be worse than what's there now.

:hmmm: Mustangs and Cougars use the same parts and in 1967 the engine compartment was redesigned so that the big block 390 FE V8's would fit into them. The 1967 upper and lower A Arms are different its possible that you could use the spindles and disk brakes with some work to correct the steering arm geometry (the height of the steering arms) that can cause bump steer if not right. Or you could just use the disk brakes. In my IMOP the ideal 5 lug spindle setup with the correct geometry for the Early Round and Square body Falcons and Comets (1962 to 1965 maybe also up to 1966) are all the suspension parts from the 1965 when Ford redesigned and improved everything (haven't researched them but possibly the parts were still used on the 1966's cars too) on the Falcons and Comets with V8's and they have the best of the steering parts (tie rods and center link, etc.). The second best in 5 lug setups that fits good is all the V8 suspension and steering parts from the 1963 1/2 to 64 Falcon's & Comet's. Good luck on your build  edited

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

:hmmm: Then you should grab up those parts use what you can and maybe you can swap or sell the rest to get you closer to what you need. If any of the front clip is still good like front radiator support and side panels, towers, frame rails all that stuff is real good selling parts for people repairing the Mustangs. When I was still living in SoCal never had any trouble selling and trading off those Mustang V8 parts. There are also tie Rod bushing adapters made by Mustang Steve, so that those 1967 V8 Spindels can be made to work with you existing tie rods (see the link below) it shows them. Good luck Cobra, edited
