61 to 68 steering gearbox

Post #1 by Corinthian Falcon » Wed Oct 19, 2016 9:50 pm

I was told by carsteering.com, that the 61 Falcon steering gearbox can be replaced by the 68 Falcon gearbox. They look very close with exception of the long shaft on the 61. What are your thoughts on this? Has anyone compared the two up close and personal?
I'm changing the steering column in my 61 to an aftermarket column, and if the gearboxes can be changed out, that would make the column switch a little easier.

I'm not sure on the answer to your question, but I happen to have a 68 Falcon steering box I can measure and shoot pictures of if you need. Last year I bought a complete steering setup off a 68 Falcon (mistakenly) believing it would fit a 68 Mustang. I found the steering box to have a slightly different bolt mounting pattern that did not match the Mustang. If we find they do interchange, I would let it go cheap! :)

Mustang6 - please, if you don't mind doing the pics and measurements, I would appreciate you doing that for me. I'm in no hurry, so just when you have time.
And you can email them to me. I know that would be easier than posting them.
Thanks.
Harold.
