The steering on my 63 falcon was bad. Had almost 135* of play in the wheel before the wheels actually started turning. I finally rebuilt the steering box. The needle bearing were shot, most were either broken or rust had made them undersized. Anyway, all is good now. Steers wonderfully.
My question is, is there a sweet spot in adjusting the sector shaft height? If I measure from the jam nut to the end of the adjustment screw I get .425 in length. I don't feel like I adjusted it properly but everything seems to be working fine. Is there a proper procedure in getting the shaft in the right placement? When I did set it, I jacked the front end off the ground and worked the wheels back and forth until all play seemed to be gone and tightened it.

This site has the proper process for steering box adjustments
