1962 falcon / ranchero - rear suspension options

Post #1 by HI__84 » Wed Feb 01, 2017 1:44 am

Aloha,

I'm working on my 62 ranchero ..definitely going to be a rat rod / beach cruiser. In the middle of new floor pans ..302 / c4 swap from a 66 mustang .. & I'm trying to sort out a rear suspension set up. I want to lift the rear enough to clear the offset of the 14" wheels and have a raked stance. Not sure if i can add a leaf .. get adjustable shocks ..which i haven't found, or a combo ? Picture below of the progress..

That is a great ride and should be a good beach cruiser. One method for increased height is get your existing leafs re-arched. I have heard quys on classicbroncos.com talk about a shackle flip but not sure what that is. Apparently it gives a slight increase in ride height. 1" maybe. Your local hot rod shop might have ideas.

You can't do a shackle flip on the Ranchero. You can put in longer shackles, re arch the springs, air shocks. Raising the rear more than an inch or two will affect the handling negatively. If your tires are rubbing the fender lip you can- change wheel offset, narrower tires, roll the fender lip, install tubs. I'm currently running an 8" from a 76 MustangII with 2" offset 14s and 215/70/14 with no rubbing.

thanks for the ideas.. over heard of the shackel flip and would rather stay away from air on the rears.. ill check out the re-arching and really only need about an inch to clear. I like the offset and stance with the rims on there 14"x8 but due to some bond on the driver side I'm nervous to roll the fenders. Thinking about running this pro comp set up
