SPRINGS (again) 8090 or 8088 coils?

Post #1 by powerband » Wed Aug 16, 2017 2:01 pm

The '61 Comet has Shelby drop, Maverick Spindles and V8 steering gear. I cut a set of used Maverick six springs (only) One-Half (1/2) coil and now sits too low .

I have read a lot in forum about different spring rates but only find two common part numbers (Moog) - 8090 and 8088. Vendor info doesn't help clear up. I think 8088's are considered lower rate (six ?) springs and 8090's are considered V8 ?. Are all the Ford springs same actual HEIGHT ?. Most vendor applications generally fit both them in almost any Ford Falcon, Mustang, Maverick, Torino, Comet, etc @ 65-75 ? ? .

Info on usable and available coil springs and vendor options appreciated.

thanks 8)

Stock Ford front coil spring part number CODZ-5310 fits 1960 - 62 Falcons / Comets (144 &170 Small Six cylinder). The 1963 to 65 for 260 & 289 V8's was C5ZZ-5310-C. Moog lists their 8088 as fitting 1963 to 65 as well as many other years and for both the small six and V8's same thing for their 8090 I think they are just stocking fewer numbers then they used to. Couldn't fine any spring rate specs I think the rate is likely going to be more towards the V8 Spring specs but should also be close enough for a 250 six engines weight too. Scott Drake has his copy's of the C5ZZ-5310-C in the stock spring ride height and rate and also a Variable Spring rate version. Many others like Macs and Dearborn Classics offer 1 inch or more in lowering type springs too. Good luck

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.
