Manual Steering Box

Post #1 by Speedthrills » Sun Jan 21, 2018 3:31 pm

Is there a manual box that works in a '95 F150 w/4.9? It's a seldom used driver, and currently, the P/S works fine. It's pretty simple now, with just the P/S, P/B, AC and dual tanks. I'm just looking down the road. If I have problems/leaks, I'd rather go "old school". I like simple. I know all about steering effort, resale value, etc., it's just what I prefer.

A manual steering box out of a mid 1970's to early 1980's F100 / 150 may work if your willing to do the mods nessisary to install it. Good luck

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

Kinda figured there's no easy way. I didn't find anything by searching.

Depends on the mods needed, but I probably won't bother. I'm nuts (not wanting P/S), but not that nuts. (I hope!)

Thanks

Might not be all that hard the 1988 to 1996 chassis is very semular yo the late 1970's to early 1980's. The steering boxes seem to have the same mounting bolt patterns for many years so that part of the swap is likely quite easy. The only thing I am not sure of is the steering arms, and they may also interchange though I haven't tried it recently. You might hunt for some pictures of the manual type steering box to compare to the later power box and also the steering arms. As far as adapting it to the steering column I am fairly sure that could be a bolt in fit. Good luck but as they say if there is a will there is away.
