head stud

The hard core six builders might have already experienced this,
But I am still learning stuff about the little sixes and thought some would like to know,

The front head stud from the arp stud kit the long one, (altinator side)
will contact the water pump impeller and lock it up!
So make sure the pump spins be fore you try and start it up.

All you have to do is grind the tip of the stud a little to make clear.
The end that go's into the deck. Thank god I saw this before I fired it up.

So do a mock up to be safe.

Kevin.

This is true! It will hit the water pump impeller.

Did you use some silicon on the threads? It'll leak water too!

Will

I used liquid teflon thread sealant same stuff I use for fittings.
By the way I forgot to say it was a 200" block. Dont know if the 250 has the same interference

Kevin.

I remember somebody telling me about this a long time ago, but forgot all about it. I think it was Will. Anyway, know that my memory has been refreshed, I'll contact ARP and see if they make a shorter one, or if they will make a custom stud for us.

Mike,
The only portion that needs to be shorter is the threaded portion. The length above the deck is fine.
I think the treads are 1" below deck height. So if you can remove 1/4" that would be enough.
