mega squirt 1 v3.0

theres one available locally for 150 dollars.is this a good buy for a ford six?its assembled and in an aluminum case.its flashed with msns-e.it comes with a harness.im new to ms and have no idea what all this means.

The 3.0 main board is the current board that is available as a kit using through hole components. Some vendors still sell the 2.2 board but it does not support some features. There is also a 3.57 board which only comes as a MS2 and fully assembled. It uses more modern surface mount components. Functionally its pretty close to the 3.0. MS1 is the earlier main processor. Its a pretty early basic chip. The MS2 is a much more powerful chip that can run more complex software and do more things. The MSNe is known as the 'extra' , its a version of software that was written for the MS1 that can do some of the features of the MS2. With a 3.0 board you could upgrade to MS2 processor if you wanted to, it just plugs in. Since the 3.0's are available as kits I would want to see it or see good photos of the board to see how good of a job the person did soldering. It wont look like a machine built board but it all the solder should be fairly consistent and shinny. There should not be burnt or crusty looking areas. If it was poorly put together you will likely have issues at some point. The MS13.0 sells as a kit for just under $200. That does include the box but not a harness. Depending on what that is that could be another $70. The MS1 easily does basic engine functions but wont do the timing on its own. With the Extra code I think will with some systems. The MS2 will do timing with most systems. It can also do direct coil control which means you dont need an ignition box or module.
