weird idle issue 1989 f250HD

Post #1 by Tbone3366 » Fri Sep 04, 2020 5:01 pm

so this is the truck im going to be modding but for right now i still tow with it, when i start the truck weather its hot or cold its got this horrid idle where it will be 400 rpm them 900 then 500 randomly then can go smooth 800 drop to 400 smooth back to 800 drop and do this, if i drive for a bit it doesn't do it anymore, if it idles for 5 minutes it starts to mildly shutter then after another minute has a chance to sputter, when its doing this it has the chance to just stall, i bought a new high pressure pump, im gonna try it out and hope for the best, theres no vacuum leaks, it has a new coil, disi battery, all new ground connections, i could be at a light waiting and it stalls just ass it turns green

Hi, this question should probably go to the big block section. Do you have a check engine light on? Have you checked for a vacuum leak on every hose? I've seen cracked hoses that seem to do nothing, but repairing a split or crack makes a difference. Two other things I would think about are the temp sensor and maybe a carbon caked EGR plunger. Good luck
