Mini starter for 250/3Spd MT ?

Post #1 by powerband » Tue Apr 26, 2016 10:01 pm

I can't find my info on which PMGR starter will fit the MT 3spd . Is it the 3124 or 3132 type for the toploader 3 spd bellhouse/157T FW ?

thanks

The 3124 fits years 1963 to 1991 is a two bolt mounting for an Auto trans

The 3132 fits years 1965 to 1974 is a two bolt mounting for a Manual trans

Both have a 10 tooth drive gear and fit the 221's, 289's, 302's, and 351's. So of those two part numbers it looks like you maybe need the 3124 for your 250 combo. The trouble is always going to be the position of the ring gear offset. If you have the 157 tooth flywheel, block plate / spacer, and bell housing installed measure from the starter mounting pad of the bell to the ring gear. Most manual 157 flywheels are 3/8 inch offset and most Auto trans flex plates are 3/4 inch. Because of this many people will I'd an Auto trans starter as having a 3/4 inch offset and the Manual trans version is 3/8 inch offset. The 164 tooth flywheels can be a whole other can of worms. Good luck

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.
