Would it be worth putting a 4 speed Mustang 2 gearbox on the 200 I6?

Post #1 by ibaumans » Tue Feb 13, 2018 3:52 pm

Hello,

I was wondering if it would be possible to put the Rocket/Hummer 4 speed gearbox on the 200 I6?
In Europe T5 are scarce, but the rockets are plenty and parts readily available..

What bellhousing would I need?

and so forth..

thx

Do you have any pictures, or websites that would show what the transmission looks like.'
Not familiar with that transmission.

Is it used with a 4 cyl or 6 cyl?

It comes from a 2.3 l 4 cilinder, 1978/80 Mustang. I got it real cheap so no loss if it is no good. It is the German e series rocket/hummer. Gearbox. No pics yet.

The fact that you are in Belgium and this transmission is a common model makes it worth pursuing. I am not knowledgeable enough about your needs to help, but perhaps someone else will chime in here.
Good luck!

Guys on this forum use the 2.3L 4cyl T-5 with their 200 with no problems.
That transmission may take the torque from the our 6cyl.

I'll do some more digging to see if the transmission you're talking about is the same one
used in the United States.

Here's some information on the German 4speed from one of our forum members (xctasy)on another Ford forum:

http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthread. ... difference

The transmission you're looking at was similar to the Dagenham 4 speed used in the early 6 cyl Falcons and Mustangs.
The bolt pattern on the Rocket/Hummer 4 speed gearbox may have a similar pattern as the Dagenham so it may be
possible to modify a 200 6cyl bellhousing to accept it.

Would need to have measurements of the bolt pattern and input shaft hole to see if there is any common holes with any of the 200 bellhousings.

I went to see the gearbox today, unfortunately I couldn't use it. The bell housing and gearbox were cast in 1 piece. The bell pattern is also completely different.
Well no loss...I'll keep my eyes open ...

thx
