Trans & slip yoke help needed

Post #1 by mcthirsty » Sat Sep 25, 2010 1:42 pm

I seem to be having a really hard time finding a slip yoke that will fit my 3spd. This is what I know: It's a 200 with the manual 3spd, 25 spline, came out of a '66 mustang, has the floor shifter. I do not have the orig car or driveshaft.

Numbers on side of trans:
C40R-7006-A
W-6 D14

I got a slip yoke sent to me out of a fairlane that had a 25-spline 3 speed behind a 200, but somehow it does not fit. It is too fat in diameter to fit inside the tail housing. Did they make different yokes for different years or tailhousings?

The numbers on the slip yoke are
C20A4868D

Should I just give up and call a transmission/driveshaft shop? Jeeeeezzz... :?: :bang:

Correction: the yoke came out of a '62 fairlane with a 170.

Any info would be appreciated.

Sorry, I didn't see that. I'll see if I can measure it and get back to you.

Thanks!

The one I have that I can't get to fit has a diameter of exactly 1.5". All the ones I see for sale new have 1.5 "seal diameter" which I assume is the same thing and they say they fit all early 3 speeds. :?:

Maybe this chart can help you figure out what size yoke you need.

Thank you, that is a great chart. It looks like they make 1.5" and 1 3/8" 25 splines. The inner seal measures slightly less than 1 3/8" so that must be it.

What vendor is that chart from, or do you know where I can buy a yoke? Thanks again.

I forgot where the chart came from but any driveshaft shop should be able to hook you up with the correct slip yoke.
