Transgo shift kits

Post #1 by lahti35 » Wed Aug 02, 2017 9:46 am

I'm rebuilding my 1968 C4 to V8 specs with the clutch packs. I picked up a SK-4SL transgo shift kit but just noticed yesterday that it says for 67-69 V8 transmissions though the seller had it listed for both V8 and 6 applications... I did some research and they do offer a 67-69 6 cylinder shift kit as part number SK-4S...

So my question is do I run the V8 kit since the trans has been upgraded to the V8 specs of that year or buy a 6 cylinder kit for the trans.... its going behind a 200 with HEI igniton and headers but no other mods.

I can only imagine the transgo 6 cylinder kit is weaker than the V8 kit. The only difference I can see between the descriptions is that the I6 kit is labeled as "not heavy duty"...

Call Transgo tech.
I can offer some advice, I installed their kit in my 67 & don't use their kickdown spring cause it is to stiff. Just leave the stock kickdown spring in there so when you floor it goes into kickdown with 50% less pedal pressure.

Good tip on the kickdown.

I called the tech line and he said to use the V8 kit. I told the guy I had added the clutches but was running a 6 instead of an 8 and that is what he suggested so i'll give it a go.

i have a 67 F100 with a 300 I6 and a Crus O matic c4 and am interested in the V8 build up that you did with your I6 trans. Could you give me the information about what parts you used? also have you driven the new trans yet? I will be using this truck as a work truck with some heavy pulling occasionally and want the trans to be able to handle the work. Thanks
