302 v8 to 300 i6 trans questions

Ok I've been searching for a while and can't seem to find the answers hopefully someone can enlighten me. I have a 76 F100 with a 302 that I plan on putting a 300 in but several things confused me. I'm aware that bell housings are the same but will the trans from the 302 fit the 300? I believe its a C4 the 300 currently has an FMX but its coming out of a 74 rv and has a trans brake. Also I have no money to do the swap. Can anyone tell me for certain if I can mount the 300 in place of the 302 with what's originally there without much modification (preferably none)? Thank you for any information or tips and sorry if this isn't the correct spot to ask I'm new to forums.

Welcome to the Ford Six forums! Yes you are correct the 302 trans is a direct bolt on to the 300 block. You will need to make sure you have the correct flex plate for your 300 though. It needs to be the right diameter tooth count of the bell housing you will be using so match it to the V8 302 diameter size, last it also needs to be a zero imbalance ie no weights on it. one little trick you can use is the 302 uses the same flexplate bolt pattern the 300 uses, so you can bolt teh 302 flexplate to the 300. with a flexplate, you just need to remove the balance weight, including the welds that hold the weight to the plate in their entirety. that will make the flexplate a zero balance flexplate. you can have a machine shop check it for you to be sure. that way you have the correct flexplate to go with the bell housing.
