Tremec TKO BEHIND 240

Has anyone put a TREMEC TKO behind a 240. If so what were the results. I have a 67 F100 with a 240, 3.25 rear gears and Eaton Posi. My next upgrade was going to be a FiTech Fuel Injection, Offy Dual Plane intake, Headman Headers, Boyd Bed Mount fuel tank and a Tremec TKO 5 speed. I was wondering if it would be worth putting all that onto my 240 or just throw in a 347 stroker V8. I know this is a 6 forum but I wasn’t sure which one would make more sense. Just want to cruise around town and when I stomp on it, it would be nice to get a quick and immediate type response. The 240 now is just a little lagging and with not so many people to bounce I6 questions off of I figured this forum might suit. Any and all input is welcome. Thanks!

the first thing you have to ask yourself is what do you want from this truck? you want something for a working vehicle, a hot rod truck, a race truck, a daily driver?

personally unless i was building a truck for racing, i would build the six, and i would probably use an overdrive trans, the TKO is as good as any manual trans for a good work truck/daily driver. save the 347 for a hot rod mustang.

it sounds like your engine build though is one for a daily driver, so you have my advice.

Can't help you with the Tremec question, but I have a comment on the setup you want to run.

You may want to look into troubles some people are having using a TBI fuel injection system like Fitech with a dual plane intake.
Basically, the MAP sensor doesn't like the throttle plates in the TBI being separated by the dual plane.
There are two ways around this problem:
1. Use a single plane intake, or
2. Use a spacer underneath the TBI, or remove a portion of the divider underneath the TBI to merge the runners.

There are'nt any dual plane intakes made for the 240 / 300 inline sixes many people confuse the Offy dual port intakes as being a dual plane design. That said X2 to what rocklord said, if you use a carb or EFI system thats not a 4V design or by mounting it in the wrong orination the ports of the dual port don't line up correctly. You would be better off to use the Offy C or Clifford intake that is of an open plentium design. Good luck :thumbup: :nod:

Thanks for all of the information thus far. The truck is going to be just a weekender type setup, nothing much more then that. No track or race time. Just something to jump in and cruise around in, bring to the local car show I host. Nothing major at all. I wanted to run the EFI setup for reliability and to help with responsiveness. I’m setting it up this way two fold, one to really see what that 240 can do and if I’m not entirely impressed, I would already be setup to drop in the V8. Im hoping this livens this motor up a bit and I will be able to just keep it in there. I really do like the nostalgia of the 6. The FiTech system needs a 4 port setup which is why I was running the Offy 4 port intake. My builder is a FiTech distributor so he more knows exactly what I need. Hopefully all goes well. Again any other input would be great. Thanks!!!

Have you thought about getting a beefy T5? That'd bolt up real easily since the V8 uses pretty much all that stuff behind the 240, i think. Modern Driveline sells a T5z which can handle a few ponies. I feel like this is a much more economical and easy drop in move than the TKO

To make this all work together it would be beneficial to change to a higher performing cam shaft.
