trans upgrade

Post #1 by 69rustang » Wed Apr 03, 2019 10:30 am

I just got a running/driving 300 with the 3+1 overdrive 4 spd from an 85 f-150....had this trans before and know its limitations since it is an "orphan" t-170 type and only used a few years information is anyone tell me for sure if the w/c t-5s are direct bolt in to my bell housing......shifters/driveshaft not an issue since it is a rat rod and everything is scratch built runs so the stock 300 and this trans will allow me to finish the car and drive while I get funds together for the race motor and w/c 5spd or whatever trans I decide on looked in forums couldn't find anything

Since those "Orion" toploader imposters use the wide toploader pattern they are not the same pattern as the T4/T5. However, I would think the T5 adapter plate made by so many places for Mustangs would work for you too.

68 Mustang 200 ci, Aussie 250-2V head, Dual Headers, Comp Cams 252H, DSII w/MSD 6AL, T-5, V8 suspension.

65 Ranchero 200 ci, late 170 head, Autolite 1101, 3.03 3 speed, Maverick 8" 4 lug rear with 3.55 gears.

x2 on what he said.Went with t&c 3+1 because it was what I had and regretted letting the 3.03 go.I had no use for a granny gear in the 62 Ranchero.Took 3 yrs to find cheap($145)WC T5,but was well worth it.
