15x8s with 245 60r 15 all around on 69 mustang?

Post #1 by 69stang_250 » Sun Jan 28, 2018 11:15 am

Hey guys.
Do any of you guys know if 15x8s with 245 60 15 tires would fit on all 4 corners of a 69 mustang? Or is that too big?
I am going to the old trans am minilite wheels and want a little more rubber on them than the 225 tires I am running right now.
I read an artical where they upgraded the brakes on a 70 boss 302 and it says they put 245 60 15s on all 4 corners, but I am curious if any of you guys have experience with that big a wheel on the 69 and above mustangs.

Also, I know this hasp probably been beaten to death, but is there any major improvement in the handling or acceleration when going to 17” wheels? I have read a bunch of mixed opinions and just want to see what you guys think.

Thanks

Here's a tire fitment chart I found for the 69-70 Mustang.

Hope this helps.

As far as running the bigger diameter 17 inch wheels there can be advantages of less tire side wall movement in higher speed cornering. In the end for a High Performance or Racing car it's mostly about getting your unsprung weight as low as possible, so getting the total wheel tire package as light as possible is very good. Then balance this to the cost of the different wheel tires that are available. Good luck
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.
