Finally finished my 5 lug swap

Post #1 by 64-5mustang » Thu Mar 30, 2017 9:37 pm

I started wit and 64.5 mustang that had ok drum brakes and a nosey rear end. On the front I was able to find 65 spindles to use but the hubstreamer had a larger hub center than what ford says is possible so I had to machine the new drums to fit other than that the front went smooth bolted right on even to the tyrods and aliment is spot on handles better than before. On the rear I got a 8 inch from a pick yard, I did removedrink it from a crunched 66 so it should have been right, no it wasn't after cleaning it u saw welds on the housing had been shortened and was from a 78 granda but it did have bigger brakes, I went with 3.55 gears just a small jump from the 3.20 I had ino the old rear. For my master cylinder I left the original single res I will change it laster when I can afford it, stops great and was able to lock it up with little effort. For the wheels I went with stock 14 inch the rear a little wider for tires I just used what I had to pick from at work the rear is 245 60 14 that's a tite fit but is perfect front is 185 70 14 I want to go bigger probably 215 75 or so. The hub caps I used were a ford set a picked up with a couple hundred.

Those are the Deluxe full wheel hub caps, they were stock the 1957 Ford cars models like a Fairlane 500 (see below link).

A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.
