Front brakes not locking up

Post #1 by krico123 » Wed Dec 12, 2018 8:26 pm

Just got a new master cylinder and back brakes lock up but front did not lock up. Disk on front drum on back
I have bench bled the master cylinder and bleed brakes multiple times and have hooked the master cylinder directly to the front brakes to bypass the proportional valve and have try hooking the front brake direct to the rear port of master cylinder and have adjusted the push rod on the brake booster that pushes on the master cylinder. :bang:

If anyone can help me figure out whats wrong people let me know

Thanks kyle

Are you sure you got a new Disc/Drum master cylinder? They are different than a Drum/Drum master cylinder.

Looks like you have the proportional valve connected to the front brakes.
It should be in line with the rear to limit the braking force to the back.

But previous test connected from master cyliender directly to calipers
Proportional valve is bypassed and car had a hard time stopping

Honestly in all likely hood the issue is purely how the system will operate. Disc brakes are inherently much harder to lock up than drum brakes, this is because the self energizing design of drum brakes. Realistically you dont want your front wheels to lock up because then you would lose your steering. As long as the vehicle stops quickly id much rather have the fronts continue to turn. Alternatively if your rears are still locking up even with a proportioning valve in the brake system then your proportioning valve is not correct for the car or you need to turn up the brake bias.
