Trunk weatherstrip for 1960 Fairlane

Post #1 by peeeot » Tue Aug 02, 2016 11:57 am

I bought some new trunk lid weatherstrip from Macs and it has a c-shaped cross section. Does anyone know whether the opening of the C is supposed to go in toward the trunk or out toward the elements? Web browsing has yielded conflicting results.

On my 1963 Fairlane the C's opening was towards the inside of the truck. Good luck

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

Thanks bubba! On that car, is the seal glued to the trunk lid or to the body?

I think it was on the deck lid but it's was also the intermediate size body when the 1962 up Fairlanes became their own model line and are more like the Falcon body. The first Fairlanes built in 1958 up to 1961 were trim models of the full size Fords so its going to be different. I believe yours should be mounted in a Chanel that goes around the truck opening but if you could post a picture of your trunk lid and the truck lip, then I could tell you were it it should go. Good luck

I am confident that the seal will mount to the trunk lid. I feel like it would make more sense to open the C away from the trunk, but I'm just not sure. I'll try to get a picture of the strip, the lid, and the trunk lip to clarify what I'm working with.
