4 lug 8” rear end

Post #1 by johneo » Thu Mar 12, 2020 9:35 pm

Hello,

Looking for a 4 lug 8” rear end from early 70’s Maverick or similar.
Have a 65 Mustang and planning to do a T5 swap.

Any advice or support is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
JO

Keep an eye out on Craigslist . I found mine by asking a guy that was listing a bunch of Maverick parts. His response still cracks me up, " My friend, you are in luck, I just removed one with 40,000 original miles on it" . It's in my 65 Mustang now, very easy install ( watch out for the 3" axle u-bolts to wrap around the tube).

I found a 5-lug 8-inch from a Maverick and had the axle flanges/drums redrilled for 4-lug. A decent machine shop should be able to do this.
An advantage to this is I'm able to use the larger brakes from the V-8, even rear discs if I redrill the rotors.
If you don't close off the original stud holes, you can switch to 5-lug in the rear just by moving the studs over.

Hope this helps.
