78 f250 who's with me?

Post #1 by Festus78 » Sat Dec 12, 2015 8:58 pm

Looking for others with the 78 f250 with 300 and 4 speed. Just interested in finding people I could talk to about our specific trucks.

That's a pretty rare truck today. Post a picture! I saw a cream puff '78 f250 4x4 with 300, super cab, for sale a while back but unfortunately I have no need for a third truck.
1995 F-150 XL, 300-6, 4x4, ex-cab, sb, 3.08 5-speed, 2 1/2 in. exhaust w/flowmaster 50, MSDignition failed with no warning, now out, canopy, 179,000 + miles. Gone but not forgotten 1965 F-100 240 3spd lwb "the green hornet"; 1960 F-250 4x4, 223 six, 4sp with wrap-around rear window, two-tone paint, overhead camper.

75 F250, looking for pedals and a transmission tunnel cover.
Image
Plan for mine is to run it as it is, and gather parts for a better drivetrain.
I don't know if that will be a manual or auto in the end, but I will gather parts to do both, but I doubt I till install a 4 speed, a 3speed OD -- maybe, a M5OD -- possibly, a ZF5 -- if I can find one.
I have been planning some other updates,
1999-2004 front leaf springs
2008+ rear leaf springs
at a local salvage yard, these would be $150/pr, $200/pr respectively.
And a shackle reversal on the rear.

I want to soften up the ride as well as add some carrying capacity.
I talked to a guy yesterday about possibly acquiring factory AC components (firewall box, under dash ducting)
The guys on the Old Ford Crew Cab forum say that 1999+ crew cab seats bolt in with little fan fare, so I will start researching prices for front and rear seats.
Both of my gas tanks have rust, the previous owner warned me not to even try using the in-cab tank.
So I am going to upgrade the rear 19gallon tank to a 38 gallon unit, like this.
1973-79 F100 - F150 - F250 -- 38 Gallon Extra Capacity Gas Tank -- LMCTruck.com
Looks like they also offer the other tank that I want; this one fits under the box and has a 20-22.5gallon capacity.

heh heh heh, my driveway is too small for all the old fords I wish I owned. I live through CoupeBoy and his ebay and craigslist scores. Keep em coming . . .

I told my wife that the only Ford that I know of that I haven't owned yet that I still want to at least try for a while is an Early Bronco, she is finally onboard. FYI, I have more vehicles than are listed in my signature. And access to many more, should the need arise.

I don't buy the Craigslist cars.. usually... but window shopping never hurt a guy :rolflmao:

in 2012, we built a 42wx60lx12t horse barn.

I told my wife that at some point in the future we would need to build another one similar size 42x60..(a Garagmahal) with taller walls to fit in a few of these..

I hope she realizes I wasn't kidding... I'd be willing to scale back to the double stacker... but then I'd need more of them :rolflmao:

I like that - window shopping never hurt a guy. :rolflmao:
who's with me on this one? '59 F-350. Occasionally some '60s and 70s F-500 or F-600 dump trucks and flatbeds with a 240 or 300 pop up. usually clean and no rust out here in the NW.

When I hit up photobucket (same place I keep a LOT of my images);
I click on the box that says IMG Thumb
img_thumb.jpg

And for your image when I click on it, and then paste it in as text, it looks like this.

 When you click on it watch the IMG box and it will turn yellow and also says copied, then just paste that link in your post. Good luck
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

I found and ordered these, shackle reversal brackets.
Pair of Ford Shackle Flip Brackets $64.99 on sale
They just arrived.
I need to go run by the wrecking yard and pay for the rear leaf springs, they said it would take a day or 2 to get them pulled out/off.
and start figuring out what U-bolts I need.

I ended up ordering a 38 gallon tank from eBay, $106 (free shipping) vs $199 (shipping plus $20 oversize fee)

I am currently researching sway bar options, 5th wheel pop up options, and brake controller options
.

Festus,
I finally got around to creating threads over here for my truck and its upgrades.
1975 F250 Crew Cab "War hog" -- FordSix Forum
1975 F250 Fuel Tank swap from 19gallon to 38 gallon -- FordSix Forum
2009 F250 Rear Leaf Springs onto a 75 F250 -- FordSix Forum

Over the next couple weeks I should be finishing up the rear and starting on the front.
Nobody makes a 5th wheel hitch for truck as old as ours, but I happened upon a craigslist ad selling a center section only.
5thwheelHitch.jpg

I'll have to make my own plates for the frame sides and cross bars, but that shouldn't be too bad.

I struck out on the Old Ford Crew Cab site trying to get help with swaybars and recommendations on trailer brake controllers; when the weather gets nicer I'm going to check a few of the locals to see if they have any scrap vehicles that I can modify the sway bars from to fit onto the old Ford.

As a side note, I found out that my truck started life as a '78 that was in an accident and 'rebodied' with a '75 cab/box.
And as luck would have it, a local guy just gave me '78 sheetmetal (hood, bumpers, grille, doors, cab) so mine will be looking like a '78 in no time.
Image
So if your truck started as a '78 was rebodied with an '75, then repaired with '78 parts... what year is it really? :rolflmao:

A neighbor has a 460 for sale.. $350.

And as for bigger is better, I have eyeballed a couple Crew Cab F-600's in the last 6 months, one of them was already setup as a car hauler that could take 2, one over head and one on its back.

know it's an older post, but I've had my 78 F250 XLT Ranger 300, 4speed, Super Cab , longbed for a good long time. Bought it off the original owner with the original bill of sale. She even had a/c that worked when I first got her, but I was getting about 6 miles a gallon when I fired it up so I ditched it. Got the toolbox built into the side of the bed on the passenger side like a camper special and 2 gas tanks. She was bone stock until my exhaust manifold cracked and I put headers on which woke her up a bit. Needing a valve job so i'm probably going to do the intake, 2v carb, mild cam while I got her open. Shocks and springs when the weather warms up again. Rusty in the usual spots, but still looks sweet. As soon as I can figure out how to post a picture up I'll show her off.
