Stuck in mud

Post #1 by Daderka » Sat Jan 09, 2016 10:44 am

85 F250. Inline 6 (of course). 4 spd. I use it for a work/farm truck but need better traction. I wish it was 4x4 but that's for a later topic. Right now I'm wanting to put a full spool in the rear. Sound stupid asking, but how do I know what one to get and would anyone happen to have one or know of a good place to get one.
85 F250 with one lost driver.

 Spools mainly are only used in Drag racing and should really only be used in off road racing. I think if you use your truck any on the street then it would be better to look for a Posi or one of Locker type differentials. Good luck
Even a bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

Current project is a 1988 John Deere 420 Garden Tractor I need a few small parts to get it fixed, plus some cosmetic items, maybe a few attachments, if you happen to have or know of JD 420 parts would welcome the help!

My Ex-Inline 6 Fleet 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.

Spools on the street are fine if you get free tires... Unlimited free tires...

I ran a mini spool for like a year and it was a bummer... Specially when you have a full load on and hop a tire all the way through a turn kinda makes you sick to your stomach thinking about the axle shaft...

Personally for the money id get a posi carrier from a junk yard (or maybe easier a whole axle and you dont have to re-setup the gears) and clutch it so its really tight and then you have to setup the gears...

heres a discussion about them ... ckers.html

Heres another although this is about front lockers ... ckers.html

Heres a link to buy a lock right its what i run in my 8.8 and i think youd have a dana 60 30 spline... ... lock-right although Id recomend an aussie locker for a lunchbox style they have a better warranty but i dont think they make one for a dana 60...

Make sure to shop around for the best price though

Lockrights have had quality issues and mine IS making some pretty nasty noises though....
