saginaw setup for 4.9l serpentine which pulley will work?

Post #1 by jjona5 » Tue Sep 06, 2016 9:24 pm

Will any serpentine pulley from an e series saginaw pump work? I've located the proper bracket and I figured I could just buy a rebuilt unit but none of them have the pulley. Anyone know where I can get one or if all 302/351/300/460 are the same?

Hi, rebuilt pumps do not come with a pulley because different models use different diameter pulleys. You will need a special power steering pump pulley set like OTC 4530, or in your case just the installer. You may get away with a home made installer using a bolt, a nut to tighten down on and a washer coated with grease. It is a press fit, very tight. I think the pump goes through the bracket before the pulley goes on. I have gotten pumps and pulleys from the junk yard that worked great. Good luck

Well I already have the pulley puller from working on GM stuff for years, that said, I'm trying to figure out if the v8 pulleys are the same as the 4.9l saginaw e series van setups. I found the part number for the 4.9l but I'm not sure if it is the same as the v8. I havent found any 4.9l in the yards but I have v8s but they wont do returns. Plus I don't want to have to pull everything and put it back together if I don't have the right pulley.

Hi, I don't know the correct pulley, But I think most any will work. I think small low power engines got a bigger pulley. The big difference is the belt size. Good luck

I' m going to install it next weekend. I bought a full setup from a van today. If anyone is looking for a bracket I have a spare now.
