F150 vs F250 frames ('80-'96)

Post #1 by MechRick » Mon Sep 10, 2018 9:44 pm

This is a subject I've tried to dig up information on (with little success). I finally got a chance to crawl under both of my trucks and take some quick and dirty measurements.

All checks were done under the driver's door where the frame grows in height.

F150 height:

F250 height:

F150 thickness:

F250 thickness:

The F250 frame, while identical in height (and width), is *much* thicker.
1994 F150, 4.9L/ZF 5 speed, C-Vic police driveshaft
EFI head w/mild port work, 3 angle valve job
1996 long block, stock pistons, ARP rod bolts
Stock cam, aluminum cam gear
Hedman header, full mandrel bent duals, crossover, super turbos
Bronco II with a 2.3L swap
1988 F250 2x4, 460 ZF 5 speed.

My bone-stock 81 F-150 has the "Swiss cheese" holes in the frame to make it lighter. It is VERY flexible, just observing the bed-cab relationship during normal acceleration and shifting shows a significant amount of twisting.
"The White OX" 1974 F-350 300-6, Stock single exhaust, Carter YF, T-18A, Dana70 w/4.11, Flatbed dually w/dump bed. "Where no oxen are, the crib is clean, but much increase is by the strength of the ox" (Proverbs 14:4)
