tired engine and transmission in 1992 f250 ext cab

Post #1 by bluecarpenter22 » Fri Nov 02, 2018 4:33 pm

Ive got a 1992 f250 ext cab that has the 7.3 idi engine in it. it seems to be making a lot of bad noises and using 2 + qts of oil every 100 miles or so. Ive got an extra 4.9 inline 6 300 engine laying around with the transmission for it out of a 1994 f150. I know im going to need the wiring harness for it but was wondering if im crazy for thinking about swapping the inline 6 into it. The body on the 92 is in real good shape so hate to scrape it. the inline 6 seems to be a lot cheaper to put in and use than trying to source another 7.3 idi or having this one rebuilt. any thoughts? thanks

Your right the 300 / 4.9 six is going to be much cheaper then finding a 7.3. If your up to the work and time of doing the swap I say go for it. Good luck
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am hunting for a cheap project car to build up. My Ex-Fleet of Sixes sadly these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.
