VW idiot/dash lights

Okay, who changed I D I O T to read "politician"? Jack?

I know this is not really an inline question, but since 2 or 3 former VW owners chimed in the last time..... In the past week, the idiot *ahem* or dashboard light under what is pictured as a thermometer on my '92 Golf has started blinking non-stop, within a few minutes of driving. I'm assuming this is some type of temperature warning light, but my temp gauge seems to be working just fine. Does this light serve a differant purpose than the gauge? The car has not even come close to overheating. I pulled the plug off of what I think is the water temp sender on the cylinder head, but the light did not stop blinking. It may be the oil sensor but I don't really know.

Any ideas? Yeah, I know- buy another ford escort  I'm working on it. But what to do about the light?

Which engine is in your Golf? OOPS! Just noticed the date on your post... hope you've solved the mystery long ago!

Yeah, that was awhile back. I finally got rid of the stupid POS after it broke down on me, I had it towed to a shop, it started the next morning for them and after 3 days of testing they could find no problems. No more volkswagons for me!!!!
