Any interest in a new dual carb intake?

Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Just curious if there would be any interest in a newly designed dual carb intake and possibly other performance goodies for the Flathead 226 and 254 engines? The reason I ask is because I have a guy on another forum that is serious for me to design and make patterns to cast a new dual carb intake, and is sending me a stock intake to pull dimensions from to make one. He was also thinking about a finned aluminum head down the road and finned side covers as well. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
I've no skin in this game, but am interested to see how it progresses. What I do have is both Fenton 2x1 intake manifold and split exhaust manifold for the 215/223/262 inline 6. I know a lot of folks are looking for them but there has been no production for a loooooong time.
Thanks for the short hi-Jack.

I'm all in if the price is reasonable
Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
There just has been too many vintage engines that have fallen off the radar but are still worthy of someone taking the time to make performance parts back for them.

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Been thinking about a 226 or 254 for awhile too think they have so much potential. It would really be great engine in one of the early ShoeBox Fords & Merc's or even an old F1 personally would like it to be a 1949 but there’s lots of others that it could be a great engine in too.

A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!
I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone!

I think I can keep the cost down pretty modestly since I am keeping all aspects of the design, casting and machining all in-house.

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Reasonable cost for dual exhaust on a 223 would be awesome. Patriots do not fit under the 60s truck cross members, and Clifford performance wants more than some trucks are worth. reproducing something similar to the old fenton headers would sell well from what I have read.
Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Have you looked into dual exhaust also? By reasonable I'd like to be 250-300$ range.
Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Yes, I have looked at doing some cast iron dual headers similar to what Tom Langdon makes for the Chevy inlines and other engines. I think I can be able to fall into the $250-$300 range for the intake manifold. Thanks for the interest!

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
There seems to be a fair amount of interest for the old Fenton 2x1 intake and split exhaust manifold for the 215/223/262. I could loan mine should you be interested in copying.

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
I'm getting the 58 ready for a car show in mid-February and will have the intake and exhaust mounted. Rebuilding a couple of glass-bowl 1904s now. Dual exhausts already in place. No judging for me at the show, but a "club display".

I may hit you up to borrow it. I had a guy going to donate a stock intake but he hasn't shipped it to me yet. It was supposed to go out before the Christmas holidays, unless someone else has a stock you they would like to offer.

If it doesn't come through, I have access to both intake and exhaust in stock form for the 215/223.

we would be interested in both the intake and the dual exhaust! How far have you gotten on the design / fabrication? do you have a price yet?
Hope it works out, thanks...John

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Hi John, its still only on the drawing board because the original person that was sending me an intake to pull dimensions from never followed through with his end of the bargain. So I am needing a stock intake and now since a dual exhaust header has come into the mix, one of those also so I can move forward.

I have a Ford Inline six 226 cu in sitting on an engine stand. I believe it is from a truck. My reason is, the exhaust header connection is on the fan side of the carburetor. I also have a 49 Ford coupe with the engine in my car with the exhaust header connection on the firewall side of the carburetor. When we talk about making dual exhaust out of stock parts, we split the two manifolds and "glue" them back together...we now have dual exhaust! I have the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold, also the single barrel carb for the truck. The carb is the same for both the truck and the car, except for the model number and a different top plate as I recall...would have to go to the cold garage to look. Same internal parts for both. I have looked at the concept of splitting the two exhaust but, the truck outlet seems very close to the top control arms...not sure if anyone has done this for a car installation? we are located in Hendersonville, NC 28739. would the two manifolds help you out in your design? cant give you the one on the car...its running at this time! I would loan out the two from the truck, they are off the engine on the shelf. keep in touch. John
Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
John, i'm not entirely sure what the differences may be between the 223 and the 226. If they have a 100% interchange potential, then yes, I can use the intake and exhaust manifold you have for dimensioning purposes.

I see a lot of people include them in the same description many times and was wondering if it was a typo or if they really had any similarities.

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Sorry about that, it was probably me. Flathead 6 is very different from the inline 6.
If there is interest in recasting the 2x1 Fenton intake and/or Fenton split exhaust manifold for the inline 6 (215, 223, or 262) shoot me a PM.

In my mind i'm thinking Flathead, but yeah the cubic inch is really close to one another and i'm sure others mix the up unintentionally. PM sent John.
Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
I have followed up on those offers to provide an intake for dimensioning purposes to create a new multi-carb intake for the Flathead 6 engine, but so far no one has come through. So unless someone can provide one, i'm shutting the door on this project and moving on to something else.

I have a stock '50 car manifold, is that what you need? Or do you need an aftermarket one?
Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
A stock intake is just fine. This is for the Flathead 6 engine correct?

Yes, a 226ci flathead six in a 1950 Ford sedan.

Ok, as per the forum rules, I think you'll need to make at least 5 posts before you can send/receive personal messages. Then we can exchange info. Thanks

It looked promising, he pm'd me and I responded and now only silence.

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Well, again after re-opening the door to reach out and accept an offer for assistance in this project, once again it seems to be closing again. Third time is charm and final offer then moving on if no one comes thru.

I just picked up a 48 226 Flathead with the plan of putting it into my 41 Tudor. I would be very interested in both the intake and exhaust manifolds.

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Look back at post #33. He was supposed to send me an intake back in May and fell out the grid like all the others that said they would send me one. So I guess the plan is off again.

Actually, bad on me for not following up. Lost track of things shortly after we last exchanged emails ... moved then had a d**n heart attack. All is well now. I still have your shipping address and will send both intake and exhaust for the 228/256 project tomorrow. Dual carb intake would be good to have as well.

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
CNC Dude, just sent you a PM. I apologize for falling off the face of the earth, but I haven't been able to get the manifold off just yet. Still interested in sending it if someone else hasn't beat me to it.
Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
I would be more interested in a 3 x 1 intake for a 226 Ford,as well as a set of cast iron headers for a 226 in a 51 Ford car. The 3 x 1 intake is a MUCH better balanced intake for a inline 6 than a 2 x 1. Easier to turn,makes more power,and even gets better gas mileage.
Plus, from a manufacturer/retailer POV,it will sell a LOT quicker because 3 x 1 intakes for flat 6 Fords are practically impossible to find, but there are some 2 x 1 intakes floating around in the used market.
In either case I would be interested in a a cast iron dual exhaust setup where the exhaust is NOT bolted to the intake. You could maybe consider running a tube through it for water heat like the old Edmunds intakes for those who live on cold climates.

Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
I'd probably have interest in an intake or splits...please keep on track. Karl
Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
Well, again after over year of waiting for those who have shown an interest in helping bring this to fruition have fallen threw and not sending any core pieces I needed to begin the patternmaking process, I am once again closing the door on this offer.
Re: Any interest in a new dual carb intake?
This project is back on now! I finally had someone step forward and provide an OEM intake for dimensioning to get the ball rolling. So I will begin the pattern making process once I gather data from the stock intake.

Hello CNC Dude,
I am new to the forum and have an interest in a dual carb intake manifold for a 1950 Ford 226 H series Flathead. What is the best way to follow your progress with your efforts to manufacture these?
Will you be creating a split or dual exhaust manifold as well? Thank you

Even though the 223 is a different family of engine. I would be interested in a split manifold if you decide to produce one. Judging by the prices the Fenton manifold brings a new one would sell very well.
