T-5 installation issue 65 Mustang

Post #1 by Shelly6 » Sat Dec 01, 2018 5:15 pm

See pic. 65 Mustang. 200 l6. T-5 transmission with Modern Driveline bellhousing, install kit, adaptors, everything. Is it normal to have to cut the front of the opening so the transmission will fit or am I doing something wrong.........?

On my '68 I was about a 1/4" off on that leading edge where yours is missing by a good half inch or more. I was able to gain that much by loosening up all my motor mount stands/bolts and moving the engine rearward. IIRC I also slightly trimmed the floor opening, just making the lower metal even with the top on the front edge.

You may not be able to get everything you need that way, but I'd try it and see how much that buys you. If you need even more I'd rather slot the motor mount holes a little than cut my floor too much.

Maybe your car would do better with the later style mounts? You should probably ask Modern Driveline as well if other customers have run into this.

In my opinion unless MDL guarantees fitment into the mustang i wouldnt worry about the small amount of triming your gonna have to do to get full shifter movement. Your installing a transmission that was definitely never ment to go into the car so some modification may be necessary as with any change made on older cars. In any case good luck with the swap!
