Wet/Oilly front passenager carpet
I have owned my Falcon for ten months now . The front passenger side floor has always been wet under the mat . It seems wet / oilley. The cowl vents are perfect .The car has a plastic clear cover too shed rain off ( windshield leak ) . My only think is the Heater Core has a leak . I have everything to rebuild the heater box . Now is the time too tear down the interior of the falcon and get to work !

Re: Wet/Oilly front passenager carpet
Hi, the test is to pressurize the cooling system with a cooling system pressure tester, like the old Stant kit, and if the pressure drops, go searching for the leak.
Do you have to add coolant regularly?
Another sign of a bad heater core is a slimey film on the windsheild with the defroster on.
Good luck

From you description yes you are correct to think that the heater core is leaking! Good luck

Re: Wet/Oilly front passenager carpet
the upper defroster vent and lower vent and all cables taken off. including the glove box for easier exit .

you can see that some looks like it is seeping from heater core .....

this is what I wiped off of the bottom of the box .... a little wet and rusty

Re: Wet/Oilly front passenager carpet
Based on the outside of that heater core box it is going to be nasty inside, but is good you are doing it. Those cowl vents look to be in very good shape!

Mustang6 ..... you are correct on both counts .....1) Yes, the cowl vents are short of driving off of the car lot in 69 and 2) IT IS NASTY INSIDE !!!!!!

Re: Wet/Oilly front passenager carpet
Not Sure if anybody is tuning in , but here it goes ... so I have known (before I bought my Falcon) that the drivers side rear floor pan need too be replaced . But with the Heater core leaking and keeping the carpet wet & oily on the Passenger side front pan , I expected it too have more metal work under the carpet. Thank You God I did not ! I was intrigued at what I found underneath the carpet ... A Build Sheet....Maybe a lot of coins... no but this ...

Nice job on rebuilding the heater box! From your all the vintage items you found looks like it’s never been taken apart over all these years too. Good luck

Re: Wet/Oilly front passenager carpet
as of today ... 1-21-19... I took the Falcon to the transmission shop . I am hoping for a outcome that does not involve a total rebuild . the trans just leaks a bit, no issues driving . but no shop will touch it unless they will total rebuild it and two shops said not at all ! So my supervisor at work told me about a shop he found and the guy was honest and fixed three things on his car not related to the trans and did not charge him. After I get it back from the trans-shop , depending on the bill I get for trans ... I am taking it too the body shop down the street . get a price from them too cut out the pan and replace it and fix some drives side door issue .

Re: Wet/Oilly front passenager carpet
I got the Falcon back from the Transmission Shop 1-28 ..... " BIG heck YEAH " !!!!! An Old Time transmission Mechanic took a look and said it was fine ! It just need a pan gasket and side shaft seals ! $ 232.94 ! He saved me 1,000 dollars !!!!!
Now 2-4-19 it goes too the body shop for door repair and rear floor pan replacement !
