Ford 170 casting number missing a digit.

So I’m trying to date my 170 and I can’t figure out what year it’s from because one of the casting numbers seems to have gone missing

C_DE

I understand C=1960s, then the following number is the year in the 60s, however there is no number that I can see in mine. Any help? Maybe someone who’s eyes are sharper than mine can make out a ghost of a number there.

Find the date code it's looks like a tag cast into the block with a screw head on each end it will consist of 3 or 4 numbers and a letter. First year for a 170 is 1961 the lettering on your block looks to be the early style used about 1961 to 65 what year is your car? What are the casting / design numbers on the head? Good luck (y)

the 'screw heads' R also fake/cast in w/the lill plate or uprising (all 1 cast-in piece).

Isn't there a place they told me to look on the block hada "T" scratched in to indicate '170'.

The spot where the “T” is supposed to be (on the road draft tube mount) is blank. Nothing.

The exhaust manifold and intake manifold are both labeled 1963.

The car is a 1964 Falcon.

I’m assuming this is a 1963 170. I’m trying to figure out it my oil pump shaft drive is 5/16 or 1/4 without pulling the distributor. I guess I’m being lazy, but the missing number on the block did make me extra curious.

The date code will tell you the exact day the engine, head, ect was cast at the Ford foundry. Togeather with the Info located on the door Warrantee / Vin code you can know when and where the car was built. If it turns out that it's an early build 1964 170 then it will have a 1/4 inch drive if it was late 64 it would be a 5/16 inch drive. Good luck (y)

My car was built on the 17th of September 1964 according to the door tag. Im assuming the engine, being that the exhaust and intake manifolds are dated 63, is a an early engine with 1/4" drive.

Anyone have any ideas why the date code is missing on my block? Could it have been chipped off some how? Seems like it would take a lot to completely remove the number there. Still confused about that one. Was there any year that had no number after the "C"?

"...the date code it's looks like a tag cast into the block with a screw head on each end it will consist of 3 or 4 numbers …"
look...

"...on the road draft tube …"
yeah, I don't have the RDtube (a 1968 170ci).

"...a 1/4 inch drive; if it was late 64 it would be a 5/16 inch drive…"
@ the dizzy/oil pump

Look for a stamped code, Assembly Date, on a pad at the front DS corner of the block, just below the valve cover corner...Rod

bump, bump?
any progress Al Dente`
