knock sensor?

Post #1 by herosandwich » Sun Jun 14, 2015 1:02 pm

as someone who has four of these engines, I'd be interested to know if anyone has a p/n for the knock sensor for the late model versions of these engines?
also does anyone know the threading? will gm sensors fit?
If noone replies by monday I'll just take the plugs into work and have them gauged.
also, I checked my older (75, 67) 300 and 240 sixes respectively, and they both also have this hole tapped, the 300 having an allen headed plug, and the 240 having a hex headed bolt, right near the dipstick under the lifter gallery cover. is this a re purposed oil gallery plug? or just a hole they used to remove sand from the casting, then tapped for simplicity of plugging? thanks for any information on these sensors, as even rockauto doesn't list them.

it flies under the radar most of the time, and yeah, it's only on the EFI. until of course you're reading blink codes and come up with knock sensor error, followed by more confusion when the parts store doesn't list a knock sensor for your truck. but I've got a long block 91 300 sitting in my garage, and sure enough it's got one sticking right out by the dipstick.
I just want to know because I'd like to megasquirt these engines with an actual knock sensing unit.

Here are a few part numbers for the Knock Sensors that might help you in your search. I don't know what thread size though. I don't think using a GM sensor is a good idea if you are using a stock Ford ECU, but it might work if you are using a Mega Squirt. Also some times you can get an error code because of dirty connections or a broken wire and the sensor would still be good. Good luck

1990-1987 4.9 (Y) 300 Bronco, E, F, Series Ford numbers E7TF-12A699A2A, E7TF-A, F0TZ-1 Tomco # 29047
1989-1987 4.9 (Y) 300 Bronco, E, F, Series Ford number EZZ-12A699A Tomco # 29047
NAPA Echlin listed for a 1988 F150 4.9 PN ECH DKS205
The aftermarket sensors listed are used on many other Ford Engines sizes too.
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.
