Best sound. From exhaust

Post #1 by psa1sonic » Sun Apr 15, 2018 11:55 pm

So I searched and I didn’t really find a good answer.

But I am currently redoing my daily motor, trans, and body.
Curious what exhaust sounds good and creates good flow.

On the other forum, FTE, down in the basement where they keep the inline 6 forum, do a search. There was a long-running thread about exhaust systems. It had a lot of vids with exhaust sounds of various systems, single, dual pipes, diff. mufflers, straight pipes, glass packs, etc. The thread starter was 6cylBill something. If you do a search I'm sure you'll find it. Many sound clips there.

I think that my turbo 200 with a short 3'' dia. down pipe sounds cool. ......When I drive around the pits, people over look the low slung mustang , looking for a dump truck, with a hole in the muffler. :rolflmao:

I too built my own. Long tube headers into a y-pipe built off of a flowmaster scavenger y-collector. 2.5" downpipe into a single 3" magnaflow cat, into a single borla xr1 muffler and out a single 3" tailpipe.

Loud, yet refined sound until about 3000rpm where it starts screaming like a wild banshee

Mine is kinda strange, gets louder up to about 2500, then starts getting quiet
And its a pretty low tone when under a load

That is odd! The borla is not a quiet muffler by any means, and with cruise rpms at 3000+, it's quite gnarly. It's not a daily driver, or I would have gone with a quieter muffler.

That's some nice work on your muffler.

I don't. Though once i get the 300 back from the machine shop and running I'll post one. It sounded very racey and raw. The flowmaster y-collector adds a different tone, with a bit of a echo, sort of like a pro-stock car.

That exhaust sound is wow

My old girl is just back running after $3k redoing motor and transmission. She will handle some boost now. Stock cam sadly. But I bet she will make a pretty noise with full exhaust.
