Which carter YF/YFA non smog carb with 1979 ignition system

Post #1 by stldesign » Thu Oct 10, 2019 7:07 pm

I'm very close to swapping in a new engine and also need a new carb.

The engine will be stock (maybe with a cam upgrade).

Stock intake and exhaust.

Its in a 1979 F150 which has all the smog and vacuum lines.

Would like to simplify things like in my sons 69 F100 with a strait six,

What year carb would be compatible with the 1979 distributor and ignition system ?

Feedback or non feedback? Dont know what this is?

I know nothing about the following but have read 1975 and later work with vacuum advance.

For the carb's ported vacuum advance to work with your current DuraSpark II Distribitor you can use any 240 / 300 1V carb from 1968 up to 1984 (in a Carter YF / YFA these are the non feedback type) they will all work fine including the one you have now if it's in good condition. The earlier carb's will be tuned differently from 1968 up to about 1972 i.e. There's no EGR and they have less of the emissions hook ups. Good luck
A bad day Drag Racing is still better than a good day at work!

I am still hunting for a project car to build but with my current low budget it's not looking so good. My Ex- Fleet of Sixes these are all long gone! :bang: 1954 Customline 223 3 speed with O/D, 1963 Fairlane project drag car with BB6, 1977 Maverick 250 with C4, 1994 F-150 a 300 with 5 speed.
