Hello All,
I have an 81 200 and just bought a set of headers for it. My question is, is the port divider necessary to run headers? The headers' flange is pretty thick, but I'm inexperienced with this. If it is required, what is its role or purpose, and how is it installed with the head on? Thanks in advance to all respondents!

I use one to support the gasket more than anything.
Headers here are only a few percent 'boost', again, for me
mostly abt looks (I like).
I found it to B a 'bench job' (shaping the lill triangle, removing
the 'over run' which would hold the header flange out). I suppose
the tack-in-place (rest of job) could B done in car. So "Yes". No need to
forge weld like the 2v conversion. Purpose is to divide gasses to simeased
ports 3 / 4. Hi nickel content weld rod. Just tack so as to not over heat cast
iron (asking for crack/warp).
