All Small Six “Bullet proofing” or recommended block modifications before swap

This relates to all small sixes
So I’m getting the gist that swapping in a 64 200 isn’t quite as simple as I thought unless the Holley 1904 and distributor from the 144 would work?
It may work although 1904 was used on the 144/170 mostly? There are carb experts on here that will know. The 200 can use more cfm for maximum performance and it will need to be compatible with the LOM. Just checked my Falcon Performance Handbook and found that the Autolite 1101 early versions were compatible with the LOM. Was used on 60s Ford 223. The throttle bore is larger so you would have to modify the opening with a dremel or something.

I would upgrade to a 69+ dizzy with a mechanical advance, and pick up a suitable carb for that. It's cheaper/easier than going DurasparkII, (though DS2 is better). I would also swap to a dual reservoir master cylinder. Stopping is so much more important than going.

... actually, '64 era 200 C4xx engine with accessories should pretty much swap into your 1960 . accessories of voltage regulator, gauges(lights) , probably match generator not alternator wiring if original , almost any early Ford car carb probably could work. With original Fordamatic , keep with your Flywheel/Flex plate if possible with new motor.
.
the little 'Falcon' 2 spd Fordamatic could still simply bolt-on any small block six thru 70's !
.
have fun

Hi, if the replacement engine came from a car that had a three speed on it, you must remove the pilot bushing from the crankshaft or else you will have clearance issues with the torque converter. Good luck.

🤔, what about going the other way. An engine from an auto going to 3 speed? I always just thought bolt either flywheel onto the crank?🥹

Yes the flywheels are totally different. But the pilot bushing is in the crank , so needs to be removed before installing automatic trans.
