I have a 63 falcon futura with a 144 and fordomatic. Would anything need to be changed to swap a 200 from a 68 mustang in?

The 144 crapped out on me tonite on the turnpike and im going to try to pick up a motor on sat and try to get it in on sun.

Any help is appreciated

i believe it's a straight drop in (as far as bolting everything up), not sure of the flywheel though
if you can get a good tranny, i'd try for that as well, a C4 with 3 gears is better than 2

In 1960, the 144 's Ford-o-matic didn't have any tranny cooler. If yours doesn't have a tranny cooler, you should install one. If you use the extra power of the 200, you may wear out the clutch plates since there were fewer of those used in '60 & 61 at least. But I have been led to believe that the '68 200 will bolt right on. Just make sure the starter is still up high, so you don't grab a 250, which won't bolt up. I think I will upgrade my tranny if I ever rebuild the '68 200 that is on my engine stand right now. I'd like to know if there is a "crush plate" between the engine & tranny of either your 144 or the 200 that you get. I've have never had one and don't know if there should be one. I think my torque converter is just barely hitting the tranny's front pump housing. Real annoying. I should just find a donor car and swap in a whole new drivetrain. I'm beginning to regret putting $350 into the head on my 170.

Id love to put in a C4 trans. Do you know which year tranny to look for?

I just bought the car and im still trying to learn more about it. Im a certified mechanic, but not familiar with fords too much, just the info is browsed through in the past 4 months trying to get to know my car.
Its ALOT easier to work on my falcon than my neon, im used to working on new cars with a million wires under the hood.

the early mustang C4s are the green-dots
no, bad, PITA

find a 67-69 if you can, if not, any other than a 64-66, not sure if there are others that are green-dots, if you find a green-dot, and it's the only one you can get, try to find a 67+ valve body
green-dots have a weird shift pattern:

park
reverse
neutral
green-dot is only 2-3
1-3 (drive)
