hey,
jst wanna know a few upgrades to get a little bit more power and a little rumble
like camshafts etc etc

Many upgrades would start with an extra 77 cubic inches.

You can buy a multi-keyway timing set these days (about $130), also fit a split pattern cam like the Crow 63602 but solid tappet grind ($280+). The distributor drive gear is needed too, and that's an extra $55-$60. New solid lifters (say $120) and valve springs ($can't remember).

Put in an oil pump and pump drive shaft from a 200 or 221, and use an XE dizzy/coil, Redline carby adaptor and a two barrel carb.

That'll give enough grunt to keep you fairly content. Extractors won't do much themselves unless you've got everything else above, done first. When the gearbox breaks, you could look at adapting a later manual box to the motor.

Cheers, Adam.

thanks addo,
i have found a 221 in kerang its needs a rebuild as it was in a bench saw  would the old 2 speed fordomatic fit
it was originally in a 62 fairlane

How much fuel would that cost to pick up? I've got family in Kerang! Not exactly close to you either...

The motor is from a '62 Fairlane? It wouldn't be a 221 then (first appeared in 1968).

The four main 200s (64/65) were adapted to the Borg-Warner 35 auto by a Ford made steel adaptor plate. You could use this plate to fit a later auto behind the 144, or even a manual.

The motor might scrub up with only minor work; no need to charge into it if the guts are in decent shape. I would be wary if it's got rebuild tags on already. Many older rebuilds used to have a small plate they riveted to the block, identifying the rebuilder and sometimes the oversizes.
