Just figured I'd share. About two years ago I picked up a free 144 on Craiglist. Found it lying in the dirt. Goal was to just rebuild it, not sure what I'll put it in or anything, just wanted to rebuild an engine.
Anyhow I've posted on here a few times while figuring everything out:
and anyhow, it was in pretty rough shape when I got it:

And its finally running!

I'm sure its still got some issues, timing needs to be tweaked, carb jet might need to be a different size, compression was a little low in a few cylinders, etc etc.. but its running! I'm over the moon.

All Small Six Thread 'Beginner question about 144'
Hello! Second post on here (after my introduction post).
So I got a 1961 144 for the low-low price of free about a week ago. It was lying in the dirt outside and about to be taken to the scrap pile. I'm a total beginner to Ford six's, my only experience with engines at all was when I rebuilt a Honda motorcycle engine about a decade ago. For the last week I've just spent my time cleaning the mud off, removing exterior pieces like the carburetor etc... so that I can see what I'm dealing with.
Well, I finally got to the first thing that made me think to myself "that doesn't seem...

All Small Six Thread 'What to do about damaged pistons in 144'
Question from a beginner (be gentle haha). I have a 1961 Falcon 144 engine that I got for free off craigslist.
Posted briefly last year about beginning to tear it down here.
Well, as you can see from this photo, once i got the head off, it was in pretty rough shape inside. Standing water, wouldn't rotate, and several pistons were rusted in place:

I've made serious progress since then and have been able to get 5 of the pistons out, and the cylinder walls actually look pretty darn clean.
Well my question is about what I did to the pistons while getting them out...

All Small Six Thread 'Fuel pump fitment issue'
Beginner question for everyone:
I've posted elsewhere on here about how I'm rebuilding a 144. Well, I had dual action fuel pump (pictured):

And while disassembling it to clean it I found some crushed up springs and valves inside of it and figured it was time to rebuild it. Rebuild kits were more expensive than just buying replacements, so I bought this fuel pump off ebay:

Obviously slightly different (and single action, figure that's fine because i don't care about vacuum wipers), but seems like it should fit.
Well, the 'lever' doesn't seem to move as much as...
