170 exhaust manifold

I am sure that this question has been asked and answered before-however I am having trouble finding topics using the "search" process.

My daughter's 61 comet developed an exhaust leak shortly after engine rebuild (approx. 700 miles). I had the manifold surfaced flat while at the rebuilders-however I can now see a couple of cracks in the manifold (casting now too thin?) and have purchased another manifold.

I only have approx. half of the original 3-tab lock washers and cannot locate replacements.

Will common split lock washers work?

Is there a loc-tite product made for hi-temp exhaust applications?

Any other advic would be very much appreciated.

Thanx

Dave

I've always replaced exhaust manifold bolts with either Grade 8 or other known high-quality bolts (ARP), and have used the matching split lockwashers without trouble.

It's not unusual to have to re-tighten then after several heat/cool cycles, usually around 100-200 miles I'll wrench them again.

I don't think there's a high-temp locktite...I know that to loosen the strongest locktite, you heat it first. I'm not sure I'd locktite a manifold bolt anyway, seems like a good way to ensure snapped bolts in the future.

I'd stick to good fasteners and split lockwashers, or maybe make some locking tabs.

Thanx for the tip-used grade 8 bolts and washers and re-torqued a couple of times. No leaks-problem solved.
