Hi, what needs to be changed on my original 1962 xl falcon sedan in order to put a 200 ci engine and matching automatic gearbox instead of the original 144ci engine and manual gearbox coloum shift. Keep in mind i want the 200ci engine and gearbox to be the original coloum shift, its an australian ford falcon. Can i still use the 144ci Differential? Can i still use the same steering coloum. etc....
Can anyone HElp?????

THanks Mark

You need an auto column - jacket, indicator hub, wiring leads, shift collar. that'll cost a few dollars.

Beyond that there may be clearance issues with the transmission size. I stress may. You'll need a driveshaft from an XP auto. A couple of small electrical splices may be needed to convert the main harness for the 3-speed slushie.

Try also signing up for info at "earlyfalcons" Yahoo group.

Cheers, Adam.

g'day.
iam putting a 200ci with 3 speed auto into my xp. should fit exactly the same as yours (in theory). from what model is the 200ci? is it a 4 main bearing engine from an xp or a 7 main bearing engine out of a later model car like a cortina? if its out of the later model, you can fit the engine in with the original engine mounts, may need a small spacer, ive been told its nessecary, but so far we're unsure if we will need it.
as for the gearbox iam using a borg warner 35 automatic. the gearbox mount we are going to use the orginal mount, plus a modified plate. on the lower side are 2 bolt holes, we made up a T shaped plate to pick up those 2 bolt holes, as well as pick up the large bolt hole in the centre of the gearbox mount you currently have.
i hope ive been helpful, and if you want to know anything else i will try to help as best i can
best of luck
Chris
