My wifes car is a 1982 ford fairmont with the Straight 6 3.3 liter engine, right now its having a problem where it idles perfectly but if you try to give it gas it trys to die, the engine sound becomes much deeper and slower, I've tried a new egr valve, a new carb with fuel filter and a new distrubutor cap and rotor and nothing seems to take care fo it. can't seem to find any vacum leaks but its the only thing I have left to suspect, has anyone else had a similar problem?

yeah i had my accelerator pump go bad. my motor did the same thing. make sure you sync the timing and the idle too. before i took my carb off to rebuild it i adjusted the idle first and then did the timing and i could punch it and it would do it a little bit but that is what jerked the tires loose for a gnarly burnout. do those adjustments and see if it helps before you go out and waste money on something you might not need.

take the carb from the top and try to wiggle it. if it moves change the gasket where it pivots or just tighten the bolts. that would be your vacuum leak.
